GLOBAL CONSENSUS FOR A BETTER FUTURE

GLOBAL CONSENSUS FOR A BETTER FUTURE

This group assembled, has been writing furiously, documents which are distillations of other documents, which are distillations of other documents. Now that may seem foolish, but what we’re doing is bringing together the results of tiny study groups in communities all over this continent, active in many other continents and countries. And gradually these findings have been brought together in many community meetings, some regional congresses, and now finally a planetary Congress where we’re trying to bring together, meld and find a consensus mandate for the kind of world we would choose and how to get the wreckage of the old one out of the way. We’re in the final throes of this process, and I left the remaining growing consensus builders in another room, locked in for the night—I understand with strong coffee and one small bottle of Scotch. The results, we hope, will be something that will be useful. It will be useful because it will indicate to people that we don’t have to have the world we have chosen by misdirection, indirection, apathy and indifference or greed, selfishness. Where else have you? But we can have a world we would like to have if we’re willing to choose it. That means take the initiative—this is the planetary initiative for the world we choose, if we will take the initiative and take individual responsibility where we are.

Now, in a nutshell, that’s it. This is a major stage in a process that began a couple of years ago. From what I hear from people here, it’s likely to continue. And I think it has the possibility of carrying on, augmented, a really substantial grassroots self-education program. There’s an end strategy in mind, of course, and that is that this will reflect an alerted, oriented, motivated populace, will reflect in policy making and decision making and eventually and what happens between nations in the world, and that might make a difference if it happens in time about some of the major crises the world faces. We call that a mega crisis simply because it’s very big.
